Hey Everyone!

We are so excited to start our very first blog! We have been talking about this for months, and we decided to jump right in to the blogging world! We are the parents of 3 children. Our oldest two are in their 20s, and our youngest is in his first year at college. We are learning to be empty nesters and enjoy “living footloose and fancy free!”

Moving on

As a parent, you are to love and nurture you children, and give them wings to fly! Even though we have not had all of our children living with us, we have had them close. Our oldest, Trey, has lived and worked in the same town as we do. Our only daughter, Audrey, has lived with us for a couple of years and has worked about an hour away. She spends alot of her time working or driving, so we haven’t seen her all the time she lived with us because we are very busy too. The point is she is around, so we do see her each night even if it is just before she gets ready for bed. Our youngest, Mason, is a college student in Louisiana. He is here for holidays or college breaks.

All 3 of our kids are making big changes, Trey has taken a head football coaching position where he will be moving. That means no more living or working in the town we live in. Audrey is buying a house close to where she works, so she will not be coming home each night to sleep and leave the next day. Last, Mason is returning to college which is not new, but he is moving off campus to live in an apartment with teammates. The thing about Mason leaving is that he has been home extra long since the shutting down of schools due to COVID19, By the end of the month of July, all 3 kids will be gone from living with or near us. We are so extremely proud of them for chasing their dreams, and the excitement that comes with their new beginnings!!

Summer

What is summer? To me, it is a time to relax and re-energize. I love the time to slow down and not be on the run all the time. Even when all 3 kids were young and very involved in so many sports, we were able to be home more during the day since school was out. Summer is family time! Vacationing, family picnics, outside games, card/board games are just some of the ways to relax and make memories.

Weekend Getaway

Weekend getaways as a couple is not something we have been accustomed to in the past! Our trips have always consisted of family getaways with the kids or at least 1 kid. In August, we flew to Baltimore and visited Butch’s aunt before attending the wedding of one of Audrey’s closest friends where Audrey had the privilege to be her maid of honor. This fall we started to learn about getting away for the weekend, but that meant getting to go see Mason play football. Our getaway still involved one of the kids. We love those times!

Last weekend, we decided we would fly to Florida to spend our long weekend. Our first time for a kidless getaway! We are visiting Butch’s family that we have not had the opportunity to come visit in almost 2 years here in Florida. Some have been able to come celebrate graduations with us for the past two years which we have been so thankful for! This new journey in life sometimes feels awkward, but we are finding out that it is also fun and exciting! We are learning to be empty nesters.

A quick trip, driving a convertible for the weekend, visiting relatives, beautiful weather, gorgeous views, and great food makes for lasting memories!
